Manufacturing companies will increasingly work together in hyperconnected networks to improve their productivity, create new customer experiences, and deliver positive societal and environmental impact, according to a recent report published by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group.

In their recent White Paper entitled ‘Data Excellence: Transforming manufacturing and supply systems’, they observe that value creation will soon be driven by a range of data and analytics applications (such as predictive maintenance, advanced robotics, and tracking and tracing in supply networks), with the more advanced applications requiring cross-company collaboration and data sharing.

However, they have found that many manufacturers lack both the organizational and technological infrastructure to successfully implement such applications. The report identifies six key priorities that companies should focus on now to address this problem and prepare for this approaching data-driven revolution in manufacturing.
